"Nevada Youth Empowerment Project provides residential and out patient programming and education to prepare willing older youth for independent self sufficient living."
We are a local 501(C)3 non-profit organization We were founded in September of 2007 We received charitable status in February of 2008 We provide residential behavioral rehabilitative independent living programming to older female youth 17-21 years old
The number of parentless, unprepared youth continues to rise each year. These 15-21 year olds (transition aged) will find themselves homeless, dropping out of high school with no income, without a practical plan or the necessary skills or behaviors to be self sufficient. These are the youth that may never enter foster care because they were "couch surfing", traveling, or moving around to different family members for as long as the situation allowed. Due to instabillity, lack of positive adult guidance and age appropriate skills building, there is little hope for an enriching life.
SINCE 2007, NYEP HAS WORKED WITH YOUTH FROM VARIOUS SYSTEMS INCLUDING:
Foster Youth in foster care through Social Services Foster Youth who have "aged out" of Social Services care Juvenile Justice Youth currently involved with the justice Homeless Youth currently living at the Family Shelter Homeless Youth exiting mental health institutions Unprepared, Unsupported Youth who are unsafe at home Homeless Youth currently enrolled and attending school
Each year, hundreds of thousands of youth in the United States go in and out of the foster care system for various reasons including neglect, abuse and abandonment. Recent estimates indicate that a large number of 18 year olds who leave the dependency system (foster care, probation, mental health) are not prepared to live independently. Most are lacking education, job skills and may be diagnosed with a mental illness.
NYEP is committed to providing a safe, caring, supportive home to Northern Nevada's young women who have been removed from their residence due to circumstances beyond their control. Our program is designed to make a positive difference in their life. We provide a structured and supportive environment that encourages and cultivates personal growth by helping to develop appropriate skills and encourage appropriate risk taking all the while taking steps toward true independence.

"The greatest thing about this program is the support, even after you have completed your program and moved out, you can come back and there is support, it is like a home, like a family."
